To date John has worked with over 100 North West businesses and many 100’s of individuals helping them to improve their performance and outcomes.
After being a member of a well-established International Network of Business Coaches for a number of years, John decided to take the high impact approach a stage further and developed
Bridge as a one stop shop for everything to do with business success and personal development.
As a business owner himself, John is fully aware of the challenges businesses of all sizes face on a day to day basis, especially in today’s competitive environment and tough economic climate. He has made many mistakes along the way. He knows the challenges, trials and tribulations that most business owners experience; he also knows how to overcome them.
By profession John is a Chartered Civil Engineer and professionally qualified Coach and Trainer. Before starting his professional coaching practice in 2008 John had a corporate career spanning three decades. Here is a timeline of what he did.
The 1980’s - Learning a Craft
After leaving school with not a lot (the John must try harder years), the first decade of his career was spent learning his craft, to become a technical expert, an excellent engineer.
The 1990’s - Learning to Manage
During the next 10 years, John learned how to manage individuals, teams, projects and finances. Through this period he held a number of team leader and management roles. For a number of years he ran his own contracting business. He also successfully studied for an MBA from a leading Business School – Henley Management College & Brunel University.
The 2000’s - Learning to Lead
His third decade in the corporate world was spent learning to lead. He held three national leadership roles in the Environment Agency and was recognised as a national expert in managing flood risk and the management of large scale public infrastructure.
John was particularly successful in developing and leading high performing teams through both significant operational challenges and large scale corporate change projects. It was during this period that he developed his coach approach to leadership.
In 2009, he was made a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management for his contribution to managing significant public risk.
The 2010’s - Learning to Lead Other Leaders
John has spent the past 7 years helping over 110 business leaders in NW England grow their businesses. He was a registered Growth Coach and Construction Expert on the Governments Flagship business support programme the Growth Accelerator working with over 40 high growth businesses.
John is an experienced change leader and coach with an impressive track record across a variety of sectors and roles. He brings a refreshing and energising approach to implementing change that has lasting results. He is also fun to be around.
He has studied coaching, mentoring, team dynamics, group facilitation, value management and NLP extensively. He is also a DiSC Certified Behavioural Profiler & Trainer and is a Facilitator for the 5 Behaviours of a Cohesive Team programme.
He is an experienced public speaker and writer, and can often be seen as the face of local business in the media.

Contributing to the Sustainability of the North West
John believes in paying forward, and is passionate about the economic, social and environmental sustainability of Lancashire and NW England, and the part that local businesses have to play in achieving it.
With this in mind, he is a founding Consulting Practitioner of The Business Clinic Organisation, a Lancashire based Community Interest Company (CIC) that aims to support businesses in those all so important early years by giving them all the guidance and support they need to be a success.
He is a Member of the Institute of Directors and sits on the Lancashire Committee, He has a specific interest and focus on the Infrastructure and Connectivity requirements to make the Northern Powerhouse a reality.
He is a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) A global network of thinkers, innovators and leaders who turn thinking into action via collaborative projects in the areas of economic development, enterprise and manufacturing, creative learning and development.
